Platinum and/or palladium are the catalytic substances in our combustors. These precious metals are applied to the honeycomb of the combustor (either ceramic or steel).
Your wood stove or fireplace will need a bypass in order to use a catalytic combustor.
When the exhaust temperature isn't high enough for a combustor to "light-off" the wood-smoke exhaust must have an alternate route to go, until the combustor is hot enough to perform its function.
Combustors that have no stainless steel "can" must always be installed with new expanding gasket. Uncanned combustors are manufactured wrapped with CatGard expanding gasket at no extra charge. Factory ships the correct gasket already in place, with masking tape to hold CatGard in the proper position during installation. Remove the tape, and portions of the gasket, only if your new combustor won't fit in the woodstove with them in place.
Federal law requires any EPA-certified catalytic wood stoves be operated with combustors to reduce air pollution over the entire life of the stove.
How Much Gasket Do I Need?
To determine which gasket will work best, calculate the outer dimension of your combustor. Six-inch-round combustors require 19 linear inches of gasket. Seven-inch-round combustors require 22 linear inches of gasket. Oblong combustors require gasket twice the length, plus twice the width, PLUS two inches (a half-inch for each corner). Order CatGuard Gasket
Combustors are guaranteed to contain sufficient catalytic precious metals (platinum and/or palladium) formulated and properly applied to conform to requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for certified wood-burning products, and when installed in USA are warranted for structural integrity for five years or 12,000 hours burn-time, whichever comes first, when correctly installed and maintained. Failure due to incorrect use, including with fuels other than dry natural wood, is excluded.

I am REALLY pleased! The picture of it does not do it justice. That is the prettiest piece of wood, and a contractor doing some work in my home said that the grain in the edge looks just like Damascus steel. I do wish the pic could give you a better indication of what I will enjoy for the rest of my life!
Looks Great!! Makes the fireplace complete. Very well built, fit perfect and was easy to install. Thanks for being part of a dream come true of our new home and for such a great product.
Glass was broken in transit... BUT!
Glass showed up broken for some unknown reason. No questions asked these guys shipped me a new one right away! Great company. Glass fits perfectly.
This was the lowest price for glass
As I responded above, all went well and I appreciate being able to purchase the replacement glass for my gas fireplace insert at a reasonable cost. Thanks.
Wish I would have found you sooner
Thanks for the help - I had stalled for years in doing this without a local company - this on-line process worked very well - clear directions and followup to questions and good suggestions. Thanks!
